The name Multerland

Living in Norway means living in the land where the Norwegian cloudberries grow. Norwegians name these in dialect “Molte”, but in Bokmål the name is “Multe”, the plural form is “Multer”.

The colour of Multer is an always varying palet of several sorts of orange, yellow and red. The berries look a bit like blackberries, but the skin is harder, and the taste is not really sweet. The taste is indescribable, and it took me a while before I really liked them. The berries are a very healthy source of vitamins, especially vitamin C and A. For me the berries are a symbol of strength and natural resistance, since they survive even the most severe winters, with temperatures deep below zero.
